Stanley S. Balon Jr.

Stanley S. "Banjo" Balon Jr., 61, of Dickson City, died early Monday at the ICU at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. He was the husband of the former Michele Brennan. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on April 24.

Born and raised in Throop, son of the late Stanley and Josephine Popeck Balon, he was a graduate of Throop High School. He was also a Vietnam veteran, having served in the Navy. Before retirement, he worked as a supervisor for Gentex Corp. He was a member of St. Mary of the Blessed Visitation, Dickson City.

Stan loved his family and was devoted to his "girls," his wife and two daughters. He enjoyed family celebrations and vacations, especially with the extended family at the beach. He was a guy that always had a good joke ready to share and make people laugh. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved the outdoors. He spent many happy hours working in his garden.

Stan was always larger than life and will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are two daughters, Emily and Rachel Balon, both at home; five nieces; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine Bevlock.

At his request, Stan was cremated. The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Yurkanin Funeral Home, 1115 Main St., Dickson City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made in memory of Stan's sister Lorraine to the American Cancer Society, 721 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor, PA 18517.
