Ruby Mae Hamilton Obituary

BURLINGTON - Mrs. Ruby Mae Glasgow Hamilton was 82. Our mother went home to be with her Lord after a long battle with cancer on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Hospice Home.
Her strength through her illness has taught each of us not to take life for granted, but face it full steam ahead, accept what life deals us with love, faith, patience, kindness and, most of all, understanding. She was the wife of the late Marvin Douglas (Doug) Hamilton Sr.
Ruby is survived by her son, Marvin Douglas (Dickie) Hamilton Jr.; daughter, Patricia (Pat) Hamilton Monk; brother, Royzelle Glasgow Sr.; sister, Shirley Glasgow Adams and husband Bill; sister-in-law, Dallas S. Glasgow; granddaughter, Jennifer M. Moore; grandson and wife, Brandon T. Hamilton and Laura; great- grandchildren, Vespera N. Hamilton, Samantha R. Hamilton, Corben T. Hamilton, Charlzton A. Moore, Gracie E. Moore, and Jaxon T. Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Douglas Hamilton Sr., her parents, William Clinton Glasgow Sr., and Swannie Kivett Glasgow; brothers, Calvin C. Glasgow and William C. (Billy) Glasgow Jr.
Ruby was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, the Adult Student Class, a former member of the choir and former member of Good Sams Camping Club because of her love for the outdoors, nature, flowers and her garden. She was formerly employed by Dr. C. Dean Barker and retired from Dr. Rippy and Dr. Tate's offices.
Visitation will be at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 until 8 Friday evening and at other times the family will be at the residence.
Services will be held at Friendship United Methodist Church on Friendship-Patterson Mill Road at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2 with the Rev. Henry Swanzey and the Rev. Alvin M. Horne officiating.
A very special thanks to our families' long-time friend, caregiver and, we feel like, "Big Sister," Nancy Stephens, an angel sent to be by our mother's side. A personal thank you to Sydney, Mark, LaShandra, Kathy, Anita, Karen, Loudelle, Jerrie, Judy, Candace, Latasha, Pat, Michelle, Dr. Finnegan and all of the Hospice staff.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorials be made to the Hospice Home, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215, the home that is truly full of angels.
Come and join us in the celebration of our mother's life.

She was a good neighbor during my childhood. She kept us kids out of trouble back then. I can't remember how many times she said, "Do you want me to go get your daddy?!" because I was up to something no good. Not many of these folks left in the old neighborhood. She is definitely missed.

Please know that there are many of us that are holding you close in thought and prayer during this most difficult time. Take comfort in how she lived her life and was loved by so many.
