Oakdale-Funeral service for Jerry Elkins, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Allen Parish Funeral Home of Oakdale. Rev. Brandon Goynes will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. All arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Parish Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at Allen Parish Funeral Home, 311 Highway 1152, Oakdale, on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at Allen Parish Funeral Home on Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Jerry served our country in the Army for four years and worked the pipeline for local 692 for forty-six years until his retirement in 2016. He really enjoyed his job. Jerry stayed busy all the time by working in his yard and cooking. He loved listening to country and western music. Jerry attended Glenmora United Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed spending time with his companion Nelda Edwards. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish Jerry's memory include his three brothers, Harold Elkins and wife, Evelyn, Jimmy Elkins and wife, Debbie, and LeRoy McDaniel and wife, Elaine, all of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Jessie Elkins of Baton Rouge and Rose Rankins of Pasadena, Texas.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Lena West Elkins; his companion Nelda Edwards; and one brother, Tommy Cloud.
