Stan the Man was one of my favorite professors at Tift College. He took a genuine interest in my further education and encouraged me in that endeavor. I received my PhD in 1982 and have recently retired from the University of Virginia after a 31 year tenure there . Dr. Lott was a wonderful man and a great mentor. I have many fond memories of him. I caught up with him at Chowan College in the early 1990’s It was a memorable meeting and I cherish the time I spent with him. The world is a sadder place with his passing.
With greatest sympathy

Dr. Lott made Louisiana College an special place for those of us who were lucky enough to attend the school during his leadership. Personally, he was very kind person and helped me during my toughest days at LC. May rest in peace.

I served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Chowan, it was my honor to have served during Dr. Lott's tenure.
My first personal encounter with this fine man was when my wife mistakenly rang the doorbell of the President's home at Chowan, thinking we were at an administrative building. Dr. Lott answered the door and turned an embarrassing moment into one in which he displayed his unassuming manner, welcoming us rather than making us feel uncomfortable.
From that time until his retirement from Chowan, Dr. Lott served as a mentor and guide as I learned to serve as a college vice president. After his retirement he continued to serve as a mentor and became a close friend.
Dr. Lott was a man of greatest integrity, who faced difficult challenges with wisdom and humility. He had a wonderful sense of humor with an infectious laugh, and a deeply ingrained dedication to the service of others.
On behalf of my wife Jolynn and our family, I offer Johnnye Jo and her family our most sincere condolences. Our prayers are with you in the coming months.

My sympathy to all the Lott family. Dr. Lott was a favorite professor when I was in his religion class as a student at Tift College. I never realized he was from Alexandria. My mom's family is from that area. I know he led a full and purposeful life.

The world is a better place and I am a better person thanks to Stan Lott. He mentored and guided me as a young administrator at Louisiana College and deepened my spiritual search as part of the Emmanuel family. He modeled and taught that questioning and learning happen across the full breadth of experience and endure throughout life. I am blessed and grateful to have known him and Johnnye Jo during my time in Pineville and beyond. I pray God's blessings and peace will surround her and all the family. Sue Wyatt

Dr. Lott was one of my favorite professors at Tift College and his teachings in Sociology served me well as I continued my education and life's work. He was low key but very impressive. I am again very impressed from his obituary in the many quality ways he served his communities through many organizations. I am sure he was an inspiration to many Tift girls. Let us again be inspired by his life of influence and service. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Lott’s passing. I had the great privilege of having him as my professor for several classes while at Tift College. Even though it has been many years, I still remember what a kind and thoughtful person he was. He was always one of my favorites! Without a doubt, Dr. Lott left a legacy for many and will be greatly missed. Praying that memories and knowing you will see him again in Heaven will comfort you.
