Larry Durfee Obituary

Larry Scott Durfee, 52, of Hope Valley, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, New London, CT. He was the loving husband of Angela M. (Coon) Durfee and together they shared 31 years of marriage. Born in Westerly on August 5, 1969, he was the son of the late Edward Louis and Edith Geraldine (Pelcher) Durfee.
Larry was a hardworking and dedicated machinist for Vibco since 1989. Outside of the office, he enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing at any pond or stream along with fishing and claming at the beach. He also enjoyed playing with the kids at the beach long walks along the beach the smell of the ocean and listening to the waves it was as he would say the most calming and peaceful place to him. He was a talented artist both as a musician playing the guitar along his most favorite instrument which he taught Storm at a very young age to play. He also played the piano, keyboard, banjo, fiddle, harmonica, saxophone and the drums he was very gifted and talented. He could also sing amazingly along with these talents he was also an amazing artist who could draw and paint as well. He met the love of his life, Angela in March of 1986 and they married at St. Joseph Church in Hope Valley on June 16, 1990. Together they raised their sons Storm and Drayden. Larry was a boxing trainer and coach for his son's team and traveled often on trips for boxing. He loved helping kids and spending his time giving back to others. Around the house, he was definitely a handyman and could build and remodel anything along with gardening and taking care of the yard. His other talent was that he was an amazing cook and loved trying new things to cook. He also had a love of all animals especially his dog Cooper along with caring for chickens and ducks. He was a man of many hobbies including looking for treasures at local flea markets and cherished his many collections of various items. Most of all, he loved his family and did everything he could from working 3 jobs at times to support the family to making sure the family enjoyed vacations to places such as Montana and Florida. Larry also was proud of his Iroquois heritage from his father. We went to Syracuse New York where he learned about the Iroquois Tribe where Storm actually fought at the New York World Fair and WON! That was one of Larry's proudest moments for our son plus getting to actually see the Iroquois Tribe Tribute and how the tribe came about. He respected everyone and was there to help everyone that he could. Larry was the rock keeping the family together and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his wife Angela, he leaves his sons Storm Louis Sheridan Scott Durfee and Drayden Matteo; his siblings Cheryl Lallo and husband Chuck, Harry Durfee and wife Susan, Michael Durfee, Ronald Durfee and wife Donna, John Durfee and wife Cathy and Christopher Durfee; father-in-law Roland Coon, Jr. and wife Doreen; sister-in-law Angelique Vargas and husband Dean; grandmother-in-law Janice Falcone; several nieces and nephews including Shawn Vargas and Chiara Vargas whom he helped raise and Edward Lallo, III, who was like a brother to Larry and Edward's wife Donna. He was preceded in death by his brother Edward Durfee, Jr. and his mother-in-law Simone Coon.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Larry's name to a youth program in Rhode Island.
