Dr. R. Earl Bartley III, M.D "Earl" was born September 29, 1961, in Lynchburg, VA. Earl received his undergraduate degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1979-1983) and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (1987). For over 20 years, Earl practiced Orthopedic Surgery in Columbus. A sports enthusiast, Earl excelled in lacrosse at MIT. This led him to establish the New Albany Youth Lacrosse Association and found the Urban Lacrosse Academy to support youth in Central Ohio. All that knew him recognized his generosity, brilliance, down to earth nature, wicked humor, and zest for life. Earl is survived by his mother, Olis Bartley; wife of 33 years, Trudy Bartley; sons, Tyler Bartley (Anna Christian) and Chris Bartley (Amanda); granddaughter, Parker Bartley; brother in-law, William Preston, Esq. (Linda Tucker, Esq.); and nieces, Amber Charles, Jessica Preston, and Joanna Preston. Services are entrusted to Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Home, 720 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH 43203, Wednesday, August 25, family visitation, 1:00-2:00 pm, memorial service, 2:00 - 3:00 pm. Masks are required and will be provided at the door. To participate in the service virtually, please visit The Earl Bartley page at diehl-whittaker.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable contribution to the Dr. R. Earl Bartley, III Urban Lacrosse Fund, which will be administered via The Columbus Foundation (1234 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205, attention: Steven Moore). These funds will support grassroots efforts to spread Earl's love of lacrosse and generate college scholarships for young athletes.

Our condolences. Dr. Bartley was "our doctor". He will definitely be missed. I saw him in June 2021 for my hip. He also preformed 2 knee replacements for my husband.
He was kind, professional and was very concerned about your health.

I want to say, with much gratitude and appreciation, that I was blessed to have been associated with Dr. Bartley during the time of my knee replacement surgery, of which he performed. You did such an excellent job on the surgery and my
