James Maurice Torpey, 68, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Baptist Health Paducah.
Jim was born March 29, 1954, in Northampton, Massachusetts, to his late parents, Robert James, and Pauline Ballou Torpey. Commander Torpey served for 20 years and 19 days as a supply officer in the United States Navy. Jim started his Naval career in Charleston, South Carolina, then traveled to Yokosuka, Japan, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, completing his naval career in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia, area. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University where he met his wife, Cindy. He went on to attain his Master's degree in Business Administration at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
In his spare time, Jim's favorite hobbies were golfing and fishing. After retirement, Jim managed the family businesses, including Black Patch Grille and Torpey Performance Horses, both in Princeton. In 2016, Jim fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a restaurant when he bought Black Patch Grille in Princeton, Kentucky. James was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Cindy Lee Torpey; one son, Jason Torpey of Princeton; one daughter, Lisa Hussey (Peter) of Hopkinsville; one sister, Roberta Arnold of Southwick, Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Josie Torpey, Dylan Hussey, and Aidan Hussey.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Morgan's Funeral Home with Jim Shuck officiating. A private family burial will follow.
