Dustin Praytor Obituary

March 23, 1982- February 21, 2011 Dustin is survived by his parents Lon and Janet; brother Nathan and wife Amanda along with their two daughters, Suzannah and Josie; Grandparents Robert and Mary-Lou Praytor and Ruth White; along with numerous aunts, uncles, extended family and a multitude of friends. A father's heart: "I personally lost two people that day: one was my son, the other my very best friend. They were to me one and the same person. He would stop whatever he was doing to help anyone he knew; he gave so much to so many and lived life as it should be lived."-Lonny A Mother's heart: "I loved him so much and I will miss him terribly. A mother's love cannot be described and the love I have for Dustin cannot be portrayed by mere words."-Janet Dustin waswell Dustin and that's why we loved him so much. He was born to my Dad and Mom, Lon and Janet, March 23, 1982 here in Arcata California and spent his entire life here surrounded by his family and friends. I'm not sure how old I was when I started to realize that Dustin waswell Dustin and that's why I loved him so much. Maybe it was when, as a little guy dad or mom would ask him to do something or another and Dustin, being well Dustin, would, as if he hadn't even heard them, carry on with whatever it was that captivated his toddler mind. Or perhaps it was at the age of 8, or somewhere in there when, Dustin beingwell Dustin, took apart the family lawnmower for the sole purpose of putting it back together again; and while I could be mistaken, I'm pretty sure it was cutting the lawn just fine. But Dustin waswell Dustin and that's why we loved him so much. It could have been around the time when I finally realized that, when the rest of the crew was heading down to play wiffle-ball behind Sunnybrae School or at Hoffman's house because we loved baseball, Dustin was heading down because he loved us. You know, he could have cared less about the game which had our attentions, it was a necessary evil in order to hang out with those he loved, but Dustin waswell Dustin and that's why we loved him so much. Maybe it was one of those moments, when anyone of us here today, may have been engaged in a "mild debate" with Dustin and he had had enough of it and would say, "Nope, your wrong", and that was the end of the story. (I'm not quite sure who he picked up that character trait from Dad?) However, it may have been more recently in one of our phone conversations that went something like this: Dustin: Dork. Me: Hey, Dust. What's going on? Dustin: Oh, nothing; just going shopping. Me: Oh yeah, where? Dustin: Janet's cupboards. Yeah, that's right Dustin was well Dustin and that's why we loved him so much. You know maybe it wasn't one of those moments at all, maybe it was when, over the years, Dustin taught me the ever so valuable lesson that cammo and cut-offs are always in style. You know, to this day I'm not sure how Vaden or I managed to get him into a tuxedo for our weddings oh yeah; Dustin, being well Dustin, would do anything for those he loved and that's why we loved him so much. Then again, it could have been anyone of the one two three hundred times I would call and ask him some question about who-knows-what and before I could finish asking, he was on his way over to help. Yeah that's my brother Dustin and these are just some of the reasons that Dustin was well Dustin and that's why we loved him so much. I love you bro. Lon and Janet, Grief never ends, but it changes. It is a passage not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of LOVE. Thinking of you both today. Peggy

Dear Praytor Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dustin was a great guy. I still remember him from little league teams he played on with my brother. Nathan's statement of Dustin being Dustin sums him up well. He was one of a kind. You are all in my thoughts.

Dustin is a brother to most and a friend to the rest. He lived for his family. He was a master of the backyard trade... a snowmobile for a boat, or a car stereo for a sandwich. He shaved before all of us and made us all look good in a swim suit.
We lost a brother and a great man. This sucks.

Please know that so many are thinking of your family and keeping you in our prayers. No parent should have to go through this.

Things I will miss about Dustin: that friendly smile followed with a wise crack, then a slap on the back, and a vise like hand shake. The excitement of a mechanical challenge, listening to his dreams of a grand project, and to see the sparkle in his eye, and the satisfaction when he got a good deal, real heartfelt interest he would have in your problem, and then show up and fix it for you, the times he would stop by the store joking and laughing with the crew as he passed by, the relationship he had with his dad (and mom), was very special to see, so kind, and generous, a truly special guy that can't be replaced, Dustin, buddy..... thanks for the memories.

It's already been said several times how loving and generous Dustin has always been and that's always how I'll remember him. I will always picture him with his beautiful smile that always lit up his face, I love that smile! It seems to me that Dustin has always lived life in the day, the saying I think of when I think of Dustin is, "keep it simple and simply keep it." Dustin is very loved by many people and will leave a lasting memory in all of our hearts! Rip Dustin and god bless the family and friends survived by dustin.

Lon, Janet, and Nate-
I can't even to begin to understand what you guys are going through right now. I lost my mom almost 2 years ago and thats all i have to compare this to. Dustin was such an amazing man and a great friend. I can literally say that I have never heard anybody say 1 bad thing about him. Sometimes life is unfair and leaves you wondering why. I am gonna miss my buddy so... much, i just keep thinking about all the times we had laughing, hanging out, or him fixing something on my car for me. He had such an infectious smile and personality. My heart goes out to you guys. And to my big buddy, "rest easy buddy, i know you are happy right now. I love you DP.

To Lon, Janet, Nathan and Family
Dustin was a great person with a wonderful personality. He had such a big heart. He was always willing to listen and give advice. I have lots of great memories of Dustin that I will keep with me the rest of my life, from our days as kids out at Dougs, to high school and as adults. I always loved being around Dustin because he always put a smile on my face and a pain in my side from laughing so hard. I will mostly miss Dustins smile , his laugh and his great ability to tell stories. People say that it takes a wonderful family to make a great person. So I would like to thank you Lon, Janet, Nathan and family, for making Dustin the great individual that he was and for sharing him with the rest of us. He will truly be missed.

Dustin was as honest as the day is long, sharp as a tack, and one of the happiest people I know; a direct reflection of two wonderful parents and loving brother. I'll never forget Dustin shaving before Nate, Nate being so intense when we played home run derby and Dustin not even knowing the score, Dustin having the nicest tool (or two of them) and Nate stopping at Harbor Freight because he never knew if he had one or not.

The only time Dustin would ever turn me down was because he was already helping someone else (usually my brother). It's hard to imagine not seeing that smile, or hearing him say, 'Travvvv'. I'm going to miss you buddy.

To all of Dustin's Family,

Tom and I are so saddened by your horrific loss.

Dustin, was a wonderful young man, and through David, we got to know him, and enjoy his humor, and his good heart, and to observe what a great friend he was to all who he called his friend.

We don't have words that can possibly comfort you,, but please know, that our hearts go out to you.
