Jonathan Sorrell Obituary

Jonathan Michael Sorrell of Hoopa, California traveled home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2012 at the age of 35 years young. Jonathan is the son of Marlen Sorrell and the late Helen Colegrove Sorrell of Hoopa and Jan White of Yakima, Washington. He was a proud member of the Yakama Nation and was also proud to be a Yurok from Wau-tekw Village. Jon was born on July 27th, 1977 in Toppenish, Washington and lived in the beautiful Hoopa Valley all his life. He was a 1995 graduate of Hoopa High school and later attended the College of the Redwoods before joining his father Marlen working in the logging industry. He enjoyed his job working in the woods but his passion was spending quality time with his friends and large extended family and most importantly his big brother Lorentz. He especially loved the precious moments he shared with his numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Jon took great enjoyment in always joking, teasing, and laughing with the "Brats" who made his face light up with a big smile every time he saw them. Jon will be missed by many in the Hoopa Valley and along the Klamath River. His grandma Ollie Foseide, and her sisters Myrtle Waggoner and Frances Snider, taught him to be a good person, to maintain a good sense of humor and most importantly to remember that God is only a prayer away. Jonathan is survived by his sisters Janine Orcutt her husband Kevin, Felicia Hines, Kimmie Hines, and his brothers Joe Hines, Clifton Hines, Carl Colegrove, Leo Canez and his wife Stacy. His nieces include Tenaya, Kylee, Jacqueline, Cocoa, Beyonce', Ilene, Katie, Cynthia, Stephanie, Tanya, Cheeshep, Lahala, Janine, Layla, Delainy, Rori, Danielle, Jessica, and Jennifer among many others. His nephews are Andrew, Ralph, Nate, Charles, Luke, Austin, Dylan, Wynoochie, Victor, Lawrence, Kegat, William, Maleki, Wayne, and Ryan. Jon also leaves behind his Auntie's Cleo Foseide and her partner Doug, Judi Sorrell and her late husband Mike Sorrell, and his very special friends Sunshine Jackson and Verlla Jackson. Pallbearers: Shane Anderson, Jess Lowry, David Billy Sr., Willie Nelson, Harley Chilton, Rafey James, Mitch Jim, and Allen Maldonado. Honorary Pallbearers: Willard Sorrell, Jason Hunsucker, Leo Canez, Tong Lo, Rocky Erickson, Wesley Wake, Carl Colegrove Capoeman, Kevin Orcutt, Jon Jon, Shawn & Rafey Logan, Richard, Charlie & Louie Myers, Carlo Miguelena Jr., Carlo Miguelena Sr., David Hostler, Mark Nelson, Ronny Navarro, Jessie and Skyler Mosier, Erik Mckinnon, Panther and Wolfie Colegrove, George McCovey, Charles Ralston, Roy Windham, and Ilene Nelson and Florenia Kentta. A wake will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, December 19th at the Hoopa Assembly of God Church and funeral services will be Thursday morning at 11am. Jonathan will be laid to rest downriver in the Wautekw Cemetary, next to his loving brother Lorentz Sorrell. The family would like to invite everyone to share a meal at the Church of the Mountains in Hoopa following graveside services. Please sign the guest book at www.Times-Standard.com, click obits.

Uncle Jonaphens was always smiling when I saw him. He would always ask about "Baby Girls", Beyonce. Beyonce loved going to spend the day with her Uncle and PaPa. Not too long ago, we were at the store and here came Beyonce, with all kinds of junk food and a dozen pink and white roses. She said her Uncle Jonathen got them for her. She was so proud of her roses, she had me take a picture so she could send it to her mom and show her what he had gotten her. He will be greatly missed by our family, but remembered as a kind and caring man.

Our deepest condolences to the Sorrell family. Jonathan will be in peace with his brothers Lorenz and our son Michael. What a trio they were. God Bless.
