Joe Coffey Obituary

Joe Coffey, 66, of Lafayette, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2025, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born March 8, 1959, in Gilmer County, to the late L.M. Coffey and Pauline Gentry Coffey.

He was a hardworking man and always willing to help others. He loved the Lord, his church and his family. He also enjoyed fishing with his best friend, Malcolm, and loved a good home-cooked meal.

He is preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Wanda Coffey.

He is survived by brothers, Johnny M.L. Coffey (Frances), of Chatsworth, and James Windal Coffey, of Calhoun; sisters, Wanda Ballew (Stephen) and Ann Gordon, both of Calhoun, and Helen Green, of Stevenson, Ala.; best friend of 48 years, Malcolm Harris (Ann), of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating.

Pallbearers were Steve Howlington, Eli Hamilton, Michael Gordon, Anthony Banks, Cody Banks and Thomas Watson. Interment followed in the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Bernhardt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
