Anne Knox Obituary

Anne Lawrence Knox, 80, of Richmond, died April 3, 2005. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was preceded in death by her son, Glenn Charles "Chuck" Knox Jr.; her parents, Myrtle and Aubrey L. Lawrence; and sister, Frances L. Poates. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Glenn Charles Knox; two daughters, Sydney K. Wilson and Betty K. Milligan and husband, Hank Milligan; two sons, Glenn W. "Buck" Knox and friend, Betsy Anton and her daughter, Ashley Anton, and R. Spencer Knox; grandchildren, Anne McDonald and husband, Lawrence, Jane Gregory and husband, George Ed, Thomas C. Wilson and wife, Andrea, Knox Milligan and wife, Summer; great-grandchildren, Chase McDonald, Callie McDonald, Trey Gregory, Thomas Wilson, Emily Wilson, Wilson Gregory, Colin Wilson, Julia Wilson and Miles Milligan; sister, Helen L. Knox and husband, Horace Knox; brother, Walter L. Lawrence and partner, Stephen Lewis; stepmother, Christine Lawrence; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Anne attended RPI and William & Mary, where she met her husband to be. In the 1950s, Anne and Glenn were named the Best Athletic Couple of the State. Anne was an avid golfer and all-around sports enthusiast. She was the Richmond City Golf Champion in 1962 and 1969. She also won the Hermitage Country Club Championship ten times spanning five decades. Another club championship was won in Hollywood, Fla., totalling six decades of wins. The Anne L. Knox Trophy is given annually to the Hermitage Country Club Woman's Champion. Her "always play to win" motto is sure to be carried on by all who came in contact with her. She was a lifelong member of Emmanual Episcopal Church. Visitation will be held at Bliley Funeral Homes' Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at Emmanual Episcopal Church at 1214 Wilmer Avenue, Wednesday, April 6, at 2 pm. Interment in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made to VSGA, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
