Berkley Hale Obituary

HALE, Berkley E. "Buck", 99 and a half, of Ashland, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Frances Loving; and his son, Berkley E. "Bucky" Hale Jr. He is survived by two daughters, Betty Sue Martin (Roger) and Teresa Manahan (Harold); two grandchildren, Justin Manahan (Kristine) and Meredith Baugher (Chad); five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Caleb, Noah, Luke and Ella; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Goodman and Doris Tignor; and one brother-in-law, Herbert Loving; as well as many nieces and nephews. Buck served in the Navy during World War II as a shipfitter first-class. He worked for Luck Motor Company before and after the war and started his own body shop, which he ran for many years. He was a longtime, active member of Slash Christian Church and a charter member of the Clay Springs Ruritan Club. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. 23005. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 6, at 3 p.m. at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Slash Christian Church.
