David Dennier Obituary

David Dennier

August 11, 1948 - January 30, 2025

David Robert Dennier, 76, of Mechanicsville, entered the presence of the Lord on January 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Amos Dennier and Edna Lindsey Dennier, and his beloved wife of 37 years, Cheryl Mallory Dennier. He leaves behind his devoted daughters, Blaire Ruch (Hunter) and Lindsey Collins (Sean), along with his five cherished grandchildren: Courtlyn, Kiefer, Everett, Spencer, and Luke. A 1966 graduate of Highland Springs High School, David went on to serve in the United States Air Force for four years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He later pursued higher education at Chowan College and Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1975. David's generous heart and passion for numbers led him to a career in accounting, serving numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Richmond Symphony, the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, and the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls. His dedication to his community extended beyond his professional life-he was actively involved in the Varina Lions Club, the VCU Alumni Association, and later, the VCU Libraries Board. Faith was a cornerstone of David's life, instilled in him as a child at St. John's Episcopal Church, and as a devoted member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a deacon, and contributed his expertise to the Stewardship and Finance Committees. David found joy in collecting art, entertaining loved ones in his home, and playing tennis. He especially loved flying stunt kites at Jockey's Ridge State Park on the Outer Banks.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 11:30 a.m., at Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elk Hill Farm. PO Box 99, Goochland, VA 23063, or Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 7046 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.

It was always a pleasant time being around David and Cheryl. They always made us feel warm and welcome. David had a quick wit and a very intelligent view of life.

David is one of my many cousins. He was a little older than me. I was allowed to tag along with he and my cousin Kenneth Ray on ocasions. What I remember most about him was he was a avid model car builder. The examples he made could have easily earned him a fine living as a profeshonal model maker. He and Kenny had many occasions to compete against each other in various contests held in our area. It was never a situation of rivals. The challenges brought out the best in both of them. Had life turned another way, they would have been one of the top automobile design and builders in the country. I will miss David. He like Kenny will always live in my memories.
