David Mitchell Firmin

David Mitchell Firmin, 78, passed away at the Virginia Veterans Convalescent Center, Roanoke, Va. on December 23, 2003. Born in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Philadelphia during WWII. He was a long time resident of Richmond until 1998 when he moved to Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Doyle Firmin; and his wife, Betty Day Firmin. He is survived by his sons, Horace Firmin and wife, Linda of Dalesville, Va. and David Firmin and wife, Shirley of Grenada, Miss.; grandsons, Brian Firmin, Jonathan Firmin, Michael Embrey; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Katherine Firmin; a sister, Charlotte F. Hall; brothers, Julius, John and Daniel Firmin. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Buckingham, Va. Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn is in charge of arrangements.
