Edwin Willie "Eddie" Griffith

GRIFFITH, Edwin "Eddie" Willie, 69, a life-long Oregon Hill resident, who will be mourned by his community, passed away peacefully in his home on January 15, 2022. Eddie was born February 3, 1952, the only child of Viola Beatrice and Edwin Leland Griffith. For many years, Eddie was a familiar and beloved fixture at St. Andrew's School and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, where he served as sexton. His devotion to and knowledge of the buildings and grounds of both facilities was unsurpassed. Eddie was a born tinkerer and collector of knickknacks, gadgets and all sorts of curiosities. Other people's junk was often his treasure. If something was broken, Eddie tried to fix it – bicycles, automobiles, appliances, lamps – anything of value that crossed his path. His favorite car was the Ford Mustang. Anyone who frequented the streets of Oregon Hill with any regularity would have recognized him hunched over, tooling around on his bike. He had a special love of dogs and bluegrass music and will be remembered for his humility, honesty and strong convictions about right and wrong. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 240 S. Laurel Street. Interment of ashes will be in Westhampton Memorial Park at a later date. Memorial contributions in Eddie's name may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
