Elizabeth DeVilbiss Obituary

Elizabeth Ashman DeVilbiss

Elizabeth Ashman DeVilbiss, 70, of Richmond, VA, went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2025. She is reunited in heaven with her beloved sons, Andrew Neal DeVilbiss and Michael Ryan DeVilbiss; parents, Ann Armstrong Ashman and Murray Ashman, Sr. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary Kent DeVilbiss; daughter, Amy Beth Marsden and her husband, Robert Sean Marsden; grandchildren, Lilian Elizabeth Marsden and Austin Brady Remington; brothers, Murray Ashman, Jr., David Ashman and his wife Paige Webb Ashman; sister, Ellen Ashman Grubb and her husband Taylor Grubb, Jr.; as well as many nieces; nephews and friends who will all miss her bright light in their lives.

Born in Norfolk, VA, Beth lived in many locales throughout her childhood and the family eventually settled in Richmond. She attended Douglas S. Freeman High School, where she graduated in 1972. Beth went on to a long and fruitful career in real estate, becoming one of the first female Appraisers in the greater Richmond area. She was a proud member of the Richmond Association of Realtors.

Beth was a truly loving and supportive mother, and her and Gary's greatest joys were the years spent together at the ballpark watching and participating in their children's sporting events. She was proud to go to Michael's wrestling matches, Amy's softball games, and especially enjoyed watching Andy play baseball at Tuckahoe Little League and on various travel teams. All of her children also held starting positions on their various teams at Freeman, where they also all graduated. Beth was known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren, and they were the true love of her life. Mimi cheered on her grandson Brady in his many sports leagues, including basketball, baseball, and lastly- as starting outside linebacker at Cosby High School. Lily and Mimi became very close over Lily's childhood as well, sharing their love of animals, and especially their artistic talents. Mimi's favorite gifts were always Lily's paintings. Together as a family they loved their annual trips to Hatteras Island, spending time at Lake Louisa with their close friends, and their family trips in the summer to Wintergreen and Smith Mountain Lake. All of these memories and fun together will be cherished by all who had the joy of knowing her.

The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Bliley's, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230. A celebration of Beth's life will be held there 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 11. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Henrico Humane Society's special fund for feral cats.
