Jeanette McMahon Obituary

McMAHON Jeanette "Jan" Kuhn McMahon, wife of the late William Patrick McMahon, passed away Tuesday evening, August 15, 2006. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 19, 10 a.m., at Emmanuel Episcopal Church (Brook Hill), 1214 Wilmer Ave. The family will greet friends at a reception following the service in the church parish hall. Jan was a life long Richmond resident and graduated from Glen Allen High School in 1950. She was a former State of Virginia employee, retiring in 2003 from her position in the Department of Professional Occupational Regulation. Jan was very active at Emmanuel Church, where she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lector, was a member and register of the Vestry and Chair of both the Seminarian Lay Committee and Outreach. She volunteered for many different area community theatre groups and was a member of the Red Hat Club. Jan is survived by her sister, M. Loretta Kuhn; her children, Nancy, Terri, Rick and his wife, Chris, Mike and his wife, Lisa, and Marty and her husband, Mike Flanigan; her grandchildren, Scott, Alex, Kate, Brenna, Nicholas and Hayden; her nieces, nephews, in-laws and their families, Bill Chorney, Randy Hanner, Beth Dabney, Tee and Bill Chorney and Susan Bock; as well as a host of extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel's Bryan Building Fund, the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

I will dearly miss Jan at our next Glen Allen High School reunion.

Janette was in several of my classes and the crush I had on her was more than "Puppy Love." We dated a few times back in the early fifties, but lost contact after graduation.

It's so sad to know that the source of so many fond memories is now gone.

I am extremely saddened to learn of Jan's passing. She was my next door neighbor for a number of years, my very dear friend and I owe the very fact that I am alive to her. She was a wonderful, kind, generous and loving person who had a terrific sense of humor and I shall miss her always. Much love and many prayers for her family at this very sad loss.
