John M. Burgess

BURGESS, John M., died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in the presence of a few friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian B. Leach; father, W. Earl Burgess; Hugh Leach; and Hugh "Pete" Leach Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory, Janet S. "Sandy" Graves; Christopher B. Graves (Courtney) and children, Caroline, Cabell and Caitlyn; Adam C. Graves (Catherine); and children, Greenlee, Stryker and Kenneth B. Graves (Kay). John was an alumnus of Louisburg College and Vice-President of Highway Machinery. He was a member of the Country Club of Virginia and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. John had numerous good friends, all of whom were important to him and enriched his life. He loved golf, water sports, flying, cars and animals and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a true Southern gentleman. At this time, a special thank you is in order for the support and kindness of David Sharp, Joyce Smith, Angie Lewis, David Pond, Cameron Thompson and special neighbors. If desired, gifts may be sent to Massey Cancer Center, the Richmond SPCA or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life is planned for family and friends in the future.
