John Wilson Dillard

December 15, 1952 - October 29, 2024

John "Jack" Wilson Dillard III of Germantown, Maryland passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024 in Rockville, Maryland after battling stage 4 cancer. He was 71.

Jack was born in Martinsville, Virginia December 15, 1952. He lived in Richmond, Virginia before moving to Maryland in the 1970s. Jack was the son of John Wilson Dillard, Jr. of Wilson, North Carolina and Martha Todd Dillard of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Jack was a graduate of Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Jack worked as an electronics engineer for a number of companies in Maryland. He was employed for the past 15 years by Boeing before retiring in 2022. He worked on electronic scanning technology that was used by government agencies, including the FBI and CIA.

Jack loved to fish, both in his hometown and in Maryland. He was also an avid ham radio operator who talked using Morse code to other operators in far-away places such as China, Argentina, and Poland. He loved the beach and the ocean. He liked to travel and he enjoyed trips with his daughter Jamie. Jack was a Washington Redskins fan and cheered his home team all his life.

Jack is survived by his daughter Jamie Ann Dillard and his son-in-law, Brayan Garcia, both of Germantown, Maryland; his brother, Charles Dillard, of Richmond, Virginia; his aunt Alice Todd, of Richmond, Virginia; his aunt Tempie Dillard of Wilson, North Carolina; his cousin Ann Dillard Grist of New York, New York; his cousin Hughes Dillard Jr., of Tampa, Florida; his cousin Mary Jon Dillard, of Wilson, North Carolina; his cousin Charles Todd of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; and his cousin John Todd of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Funeral plans are pending.

Contributions can be made to his name to the American Cancer Society.
