John Elliott Obituary

ELLIOTT, John E., 75, departed this life on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at his home in Spring Grove, Va. after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 19, 1931 to the late Aaron and Ida Elliott. A native of Surry County, he retired from Newport News Shipyard after 40 years of service. He was a trustee of the Swan's Point Baptist Church and a charter member of the Spring Grove Gilchrist Hunt Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph A. Elliott; and his sister, Evelyn Wooden. He leaves to mourn his loss his devoted wife of 49 years, Roslyn Elliott; two children, Michael E. Elliott (Kevette) of Montpelier, Va., and Felecia E. Brown (Emile) of Newark, Del.; three grandchildren, Megan and Madison Brown and Paul Elliott. He also leaves to mourn his loss, three siblings, Vernice Wooden (Elwood) of Spring Grove, Va., Alma Wooden (Percell) of Norfolk, Va., and Albert Elliott (Jerline) of Spring Grove, Va.; he leaves numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, among them two beloved nieces, Shirley Drew and Linda Wooden; and three great nephews, "his buddies", Roland, Myron and Bryant Wooden. To cherish his memory as well are his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clarence E. Wooden, Doris Adkins, Louise Jones, Marion Johnson, Burnette Wooden and Norville Wooden. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Swan's Point Baptist Church, 687 Swan's Point Road, Spring Grove, Va. 23881. Interment will be in the Swan's Point Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Poole's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions be made to the Swan's Point Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of John E. Elliott, 687 Swan's Point Road, Spring Grove, Va. 23881. Arrangements by Poole's Funeral Home, Sabrina Hardy-Newby, Funeral Directress, 757-357-4742.

And Mrs. Elliott you are one of a kind, a teacher that I will never forget from Surry High School.
