John Mundie Obituary

John William Mundie, Jr. peacefully went to be with his Lord Wednesday, March 6th, 2024 surrounded by loving family. John was born on October 9, 1954 to John William Mundie, Sr. and Barbara Baughan Mundie in Richmond, VA. Johnny loved taking care of people. He was kind and had a huge heart. He was charming and loved to talk with people. John worked at Packaging Corporation of America for over 40 years. After he retired, he got a part time job at Pit Stop because he loved chatting with all the folks who came in to the store. When his kids were growing up, Johnny loved spending weekends at the Rappahannock River with his family during the summer, family vacations in North Myrtle Beach every July, and trips to West Virginia with the family to Aunt Marian and Uncle Harry's for Thanksgiving. Later in life, he enjoyed going to Virginia Beach to watch the Monster Trucks from his balcony overlooking the beach with his wife, Georgia. He never really met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. He was funny and loving and kind and he made friends wherever he went. He was the best dad anyone could ever hope for and loved his children more than anything in the world. He loved children in general, especially all of his nieces and nephews, and Uncle Johnny always had some Slurpee money for them on hand. His step-daughter and bonus grandkids lovingly called him Papa John.

John is survived by his two children, Amy Michelle Mundie, 42, of Seattle, WA, and John William Mundie III (Bill), 38, of Richmond, VA. His three siblings, Don Mundie of Myrtle Beach, SC (Debbie), Darlene Parker of Montpelier, VA (Wayne), and Greg Mundie of Richmond, VA (Teresa). Beloved nieces and nephews, Kristin Mundie, Justin Mundie, and Amanda Parker Thorne. His wife of almost 10 years, Georgia Mundie, step-daughter Lauren Gallagher, bonus grandchildren Kynley and Gabby, and his former wife of 21 years and mother of his children Becky Westbrook.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents and grandparents, and his beautiful niece Lauren Marie Parker. His late wives, Mary Lou Mundie and Pat Mundie. John came from a big family and has many aunts, uncles, and cousins that have gone before him as well.

John was able to have a 3 day living wake, where he was able to see and talk to so many of his family, friends, and loved ones. He got to be with his children and all his siblings and see many dear friends and family that are too many to count. He was able to tell old stories and laugh, and enjoy the best chocolate milkshake. It was a huge blessing and he was able to go Home on his terms. He will be immeasurably missed but it is a comfort to know that he has gained his wings and shed the body that had been causing him so much pain for so long. Johnny worked hard his whole life and has earned his rest in Paradise and is at peace.

John touched many lives and was impossible not to love. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life at Crump Park Pavilion 1, Sunday, March, 10th, 2024 from 1p-4p to share stories and memories and celebrate him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association to honor his mom, aunt, and his grandmother whom he loved deeply.

2 Corinthians 4:7-18

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Blessings to you, John, on your journey home. I'm grateful you had a chance to say goodbye to so many and hear their love for you. I'm glad we got to say goodbye, too.

Amy and Will: Blessings to both of you on your newfound journey without your Dad on this plane. He is with you always. He lit up like a thousand suns when I told him I was pregnant with each of you, loving you completely from the very start. He will love you forever, and always be with you. You just need to think of him and he'll be there, guiding from beyond.

What a great gift he was, to all of us. May he rest in peace. He certainly earned it.

I met Johnnie many years ago. He was definitely one of the kindest people. My mom would greet him.."Hello, ole boy" of course with a big hug We played many a card games with family over the years, spent time on the lake, and hiked up the mountain behind my mom's house every year when he and his family visited for Thanksgiving. He was just a kind hearted person.

Johnny,
You and Becky and Chris and I had a great time for many years. Watching our kids grow up, jobs and job changes, animals come and go... We just lived, loved, and laughed our way through life.

Thank you for being my friend.

You are finally at peace.
Your family and friends will find their new normal. Tell your mom that I said hi! Try not to get into too much trouble! See around when it's my time.

You have beautifully described your dad, our dear friend, Johnny Mundie. Everybody should feel as blessed as we do for having known him. God granted him such a great gift to have this time to spend with family and friends. He truly deserved it and I don´t use that word often. He was a terrific example of a Christ like love to any person that crossed his path. I can just picture him now being blown away with all the joy he is feeling as he is reacquainted with his loved ones. Not to mention all those strangers he has eternity to chat up. Ohhh, this for sure will keep him busy as Mr. Hospitality. He is going to really really be missed! So. Many. Memories
