Joo Yoon Obituary
February 26, 1935 - September 8, 2024
Joo Tae Yoon (JT), 89, of Richmond, VA, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Sun, Sept 8, 2024. He is survived by his wife Hee Sung; daughter Jennifer Jung (Kyu) and son Jason Yoon. He had 3 grandchildren; Ethan, Hudson and Stella Jung.
JT received his BA (Econ/Math) at Hartwick College '67; his MA (Econ) '70 and Ph.D. (Econ) '74 at Cornell University. He was a Supervisor of Procurement Economics at VA Power from 1982-2000 and had been retired for 24 years. He also was the President of the Korean-American Society of Richmond (1987-1989); Chairman of the Int'l Food Festival (Korea)(1986-1995); Commissioner of the Human Relations Commission (Richmond)(1992-1996); a court interpreter for Korean-Americans (1982-2000); and Principal for Richmond Korean School (1985-2000).
Not only did he volunteer much of his time to help Korean-Americans settle in the U.S., he was active in the Korean-American Society of Greater Richmond. He also enjoyed playing golf, going to church, photography, creating photo albums and personal bday and holiday cards.
JT's kindness, love and willing to help family, friends and church members will forever reside in our hearts. He will truly be missed. We love you Dad.
A Celebration of Life service will be on Sept 21, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 9600 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond VA.

I worked with JT at Dominion while attending UofR in the evenings. He took time out of his day to help me with my Calculus homework with the use of a white board. I'll never forget it. I thanked him profusely although I still didn't understand any of it! RIP to a kind, generous and brilliant man.
