Kathy Reed Burt

1952 - 2023

BURT, Kathy Reed, age 70, of Doswell, Virginia passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Kathy was born and raised in Kosciusko, MS, on November 10, 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mavis Reed; son, Carl Glenn McElroy II. She attended Holmes Junior College and received her LPN from Mississippi University for Women "The W" in Columbus, MS and received her Bachelor of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus. Kathy taught nursing at The W as well as ECPI University. She was a member of The Boy Scouts of America Pack 718 and Troop 700 in Ashland, VA. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family, watching football, traveling, and gardening. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Kenneth Burt; son, Kevin Burt and wife, Heather; grandson, Carl Glenn "Tripp" McElroy III; brother, DeWayne Reed and wife, Jane; and sister, "aunt", Risa Kay Hodges DuBard.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland. where a funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Kathy Burt Memorial Fund for her grandson Carl Glenn "Tripp" McElroy III's college fund, via Venmo @ KennethBurt.
