Linda Campbell Cross
December 13, 1931 - June 15, 2025
Linda Campbell Cross, age 93, died on June 15th, at Westminster Canterbury. She was predeceased by her husband of over 65 years, J. Robert Cross, and her eldest son, J. Robert Cross, Jr. She is survived by her children, Ann (John) Hastings of The Villages, Fla., and Richard (Karen) Cross of Sarasota, Fla. She also leaves five grandchildren, Thomas (Megan) Ramage of State College, Pa., Allison Ramage of Alexandria, and Jessie Faye Cross, Ryan Cross, and Jake Cross of Sarasota, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter, Genevieve Ramage.
Linda was one of nine children of Thomas and Pearl Campbell. She was predeceased by Dr. Thomas Campbell of Richmond, Margaret Brown of Newport News, William Campbell of King William, Richard Campbell of Mechanicsville, Judy Burton of Richmond, Dr. James Campbell of Richmond, and Dr. Walker Campbell of Raleigh. She is survived by E.M. "Tootsie" Campbell of King William.
Mrs. Cross graduated from King William High School in 1949 and Lynchburg College in 1953. She loved growing flowers, especially daffodils, and was a member of the Virginia Daffodil Society, the Sleepy Hollow Garden Club, and the Richmond Horticultural Association. She was a long-time volunteer at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. She was proud of her heritage and was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
She was a medical secretary for Drs. Michaux and Graham from the time of her college graduation until she became a full-time "mom" after her children were born. She taught Sunday school at St. Mathews Episcopal and All Saints Episcopal for a total of over 25 years. She volunteered at Westminster Canterbury – Richmond for over 30 years, both before, and after, becoming a resident there and was awarded Westminster Canterbury's Laurel Award for outstanding volunteer service.
A private graveside funeral service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Society of Colonial Dames in the Commonwealth of Virginia, 215 S. Wilton Rd., Richmond, VA 23226; or to the Fellowship Fund, Westminster Canterbury, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA 23227.
