Lynne Elaine Ferguson Herdrich

Lynne Herdrich Obituary

>HERDRICH Lynne Elaine Ferguson Herdrich passed peacefully at home on April 14, 2007 from breast cancer at the age of 56, a daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She was an artist, photographer, nurse midwife and accomplished musician. She was a beautiful woman with a soul to match and a magnetism that enriched the lives of her family and countless friends. She is survived by husband, Floyd Herdrich; daughters, Sarah Herdrich and Jesse Windley; and her grandchildren, Thomas and Austin Windley. Also surviving are father, Robert Ferguson; brother, Rob Ferguson; and sisters, Anne Lecuyer and Jan Ferguson. Lynne attended Columbia College (Mo.) and the University of Iowa, receiving the BA in Fine Arts and pursuing the MA in Fine Arts Photography before teaching at APEIRON Workshops in New York state. Her life long commitment to study continued, gaining a Masters in Nursing from Pace University to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. Later, she became a Nurse Midwife, studying at the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, Ky. Lynne embraced the holistic approach throughout her years of nursing. She served on the Board of the American Holistic Nurses Association and helped 2000 babies into this world. As Lynne's professional life transitioned from the Fine Arts to the Healing Arts, she pursued spiritual studies with the Arica Institute and studied and taught with the School of Tai Chi Chuan, 1978 to present. Lynne's life thread was music. An accomplished classical pianist from a young age, she studied and taught mountain lap dulcimer and auto-harp in her last decade. She drew in those around her, teaching and encouraging their playing. She generously shared the beauty of her musical gifts with family, friends, neighbors and church. This Spring Lynne was awarded the Robert Force scholarship for Innovation in Dulcimer Playing. A memorial service will be held Sunday, 29 April 2007, at 3 p.m. at West Richmond Church of the Brethren, 7612 Wanymala Rd. Memorial donations may be directed to Birth Center, Southern Dominion Health System, P.O. Box 1267, Emporia, Va., 23847 and/or The Patty Gorman Heart Fund, c/o Tina Curren, 42 Bittersweet Ave., Hampton Bays, N.Y., 11946.

After reading how much Lynne accomplished in her young life, I'm sure she is not finished. Whenever we hear a baby's first cry, the sound of music or just the gentle touch of the wind, it'll be Lynne guiding us in the right direction. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Ken and Jill

When we learned of Lynne's passing, we were surprised and saddened. Wonderful memories of our families at Bob and Marjorie's for Thanksgiving, and March birthdays in Liberty. Lynne will truly be missed by all who ever met her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of loss, and she is never gone as long as she is remembered and loved.

I stumbled over Mrs. Herdrich's obituary in the Liberty, MO newspaper today. Her young age caught my eye and then I read with amazement at what she had accomplished in her life. I felt fortunate that she had found the Frontier Nursing Service for her midwife education. Though I now live in Missouri, I grew up about 20 miles from Hyden. It is not often that we are aware that others seek out our mountains. That she was able to carry that training to other places is a testament to the life and work of Mary Breckenridge, who founded FNS. I pray that you will find comfort in her impact on so many lives. It is also my prayer that, sometime in the future, your memories will bring you more joy than sorrow. God bless you all...

Our daughters were close friends in High School and Lynne & Floyd often held cozy gatherings for family and friends at their home. I enjoyed these parties because of the good food, lively conversations and many times great music. Jesse & Sarah you should be proud of your mother. She was a person of many talents and accomplishments. She was also a very caring and giving person. I'm sure she will continue to be with you both always. Our hearts go out to you both and to your dad.

Warms hugs,
Mike, Elona, Evan, and Mara Polach

P.S. Lynne can you please find our daughter Maren and give her a big hug from us.

Lynne was by my side when my little Angel, Gabriel, was born by an unexpected C-Section in November, 2004. She was my calming force, my rock of strength & my book of knowledge as my family and I dealt with the news that our little baby needed to be transferred to UVA immediately for possible heart surgery. It all turned out well for Gabriel because of the power of prayer no surgery was ever needed. His condition just disappeared. So, knowing that Lynne is with our God - the one who heals - makes me feel better and happy because I know she will be watching over all she loves. Gosh, she has left such a legacy! I'm proud that my baby was 1 of the 2000+ babies she helped bring into the world. I wish you could still be here for another 2000+ more Lynne! We'll see you again at the Tabernacle! The Owen Family

Time moves on, but I wish that I could have known Lynn better as I became an adult. She always amazed me with her talents.
