Mary Sharpley Obituary

Mary was born in Richmond, Virginia. She passed away peacefully at Branchlands Linden House in Charlottesville, Virginia at 97 years old. She was formerly a resident of Lake of the Woods in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Miles Sharpley. Mary is survived by her 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

In 1945, Mary graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond and attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg. Mary was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Meadows Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville.

Mary loved boating, aviation, Bridge, Dominoes, travel and volunteering at hospitals and Meals on Wheels. She was happy when flying her Cessna 182 and piloting the family 45-foot Chris Craft in her early years.

A private family burial was held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 704 Rose Hill Drive, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22903.

Mary thanks the staff of Branchlands Linden House, Legacy Hospice, Just A Little Help, and Care Is There for their compassionate care while Mary was part of the Charlottesville community.

I visited Mary with my friend Donna Daniels many times. She was such a pleasure to be around. Her smile was contagious and her stories were fun to hear. May she rest in peace.
