Patricia Cocchiola Obituary

COCCHIOLA , Patricia L. "Pat", age 91, joined the angels in Heaven on January 4, 2021, after becoming another victim of COVID-19. She was born in Meriden, Conn., on March 2, 1929, to Pasquale Vocola and Mary DiGuilmi. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph Rocco Cocchiola, who also died on this date in the year 2000; a son, Joseph Anthony (Joey); a brother, Paul Vocola; and sisters, Frances Vocola and Marion Reisert. Pat led a full life and was blessed with a large and loving family and had many friends in Connecticut, Richmond, Va., where she lived for over 40 years and Myrtle Beach, S.C., where she lived for seven years. Her family includes two sons, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Robert J. (Bob) Cocchiola and his wife, Jocelyn, of Midlothian, Va. and William J. (Bill) Cocchiola and his wife, Leslie, of Powhatan, Va. Bob's family includes Pat's grandchildren, Erin Rich and her husband, Adam; and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Stella and Levi of Midlothian; Dr. Brian J. Cocchiola and his wife, Caroline; and great-grandchildren, Charlie and Ella of Midlothian; and Jenna Green and her husband, Daniel, of Richmond, Va.; with great-grandchild number eight on the way. Bill's family includes Pat's grandchildren, Justin Cocchiola and his wife, Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Abby and Kate of Brentwood, Tenn. and Michael Cocchiola and his wife, Sarah, of Glen Allen, Va. She also leaves behind six nieces and one nephew who brought much joy and happiness to her life. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Spring Arbor and Our Lady of Hope for the care and compassion they provided her over the last seven years of her life. Especially the staff at Our Lady of Hope who in the face of this horrid pandemic provided care and comfort when her family could not be present. There are no words to thank you. You are all truly angels here on earth. Final arrangements are pending but she will have a small family service in the near term and burial will be in South Carolina with her husband sometime in our post-vaccinated future.

In lieu of gifts, the family asks that all donations be sent to Our Lady of Hope Health Care Center in honor of Pat Cocchiola for the Resident About Town fund at 13700 N. Gayton Road, Richmond, Va. 23233. Finally, when Ella (4) heard of Nana's passing this was her exchange with her mom ... Ella just told me that she misses Nana and asked if she was with God yet. I told her yes she was. She asked if God would tell Nana that she misses her and when I told her yes she prayed to God. It brought tears to my eyes. She said to tell Nana she loves her and knows she misses us but she's happy she gets to with be with God and Jesus and the angels in Heaven. Amen.
