Patrick Leininger Obituary

Patrick Michael Leininger

August 11, 1952 - October 8, 2024

Patrick Michael Leininger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on October 8th, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on August 11th, 1952, Michael grew up in Kentucky with a love of learning and an insatiable curiosity that followed him throughout his life.

After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, Michael went on to attend Christopher Newport University, where he developed a passion for communications and built the foundation for his long career in public service.

Michael spent 34 years working for the Department of Corrections as a dedicated communication liaison. His colleagues admired his professionalism, empathy, and tireless commitment to ensuring that voices were heard and connections were made. His work left a lasting impact on those he worked with, and he was respected for his deep integrity and steady presence.

Outside of work, Michael was a man of many interests. An avid golfer, he loved spending time on the greens, enjoying the game and the camaraderie it brought him. He and his wife also loved to travel, exploring new places and savoring new experiences together. And when he wasn't out exploring the world, you could find him in the kitchen. Michael was an exceptional cook who found great joy in preparing meals for those he loved.

Above all, Michael was a family man. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Carolyn, with whom he shared many years of happiness. He was the proud father of two children, Amanda and Jordan, and found his greatest joy in being a grandfather to Noah and Stella. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Michael is survived by his father, Howard Patrick Leininger; two brothers, Mark (Amy Stetter) and Martin Leininger; his loving wife, Carolyn; his children, Amanda (David Seibert) and Jordan; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah and Stella. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Leininger, his sister, Michelle Von Hoene, and his sister-in-law Jami Leininger.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Johnston-Willis Hospital and Davita, the dialysis center where Michael spent many hours each week. Special thanks also go to Hospital to Home transportation, Home Instead, and At Home Care for their dedication and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the American Kidney Foundation, causes that held special meaning to Michael and his family.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear of Mike´s passing. I worked with him for several years at the Department of Corrections and I remember him fondly. You and I knew each other as friends of Kathi King. My heartfelt sympathy to you and Mike´s family.

Mike was a very talented communicator. Worked with him often at the Department of Corrections. He had his own unique style and approach. He was tremendously successful as our advocate. He handled some very tough challenges. I admired his approach and learned a lot just watching him operate. I pray his family finds peace after this huge loss.

Carolyn, I am so sorry. We will all miss him. Remember all the good times we had at work with him. The wedding on the beach. Your life with him and the kids. Remember the events we went to and when Mike put his cap on backward you said okay it is time to go. Love, Jean
