Rose Koch Obituary

Rose Koch

February 19, 1934 - March 16, 2025

It is with much love that we announce the passing of Rose Wilkinson Koch on March 16, 2025.

Born on February 19, 1934, she grew up on the south side of Richmond and graduated from John Marshall High School but not before marrying David Thurman. Rose embraced motherhood and shaped her life around love and care for her children and family.

Though she never attended art school, her natural talent and first career as a homemaker/mother fed her creative passion and shone through everything she touched and tried. When she was ready for a job she became a window dresser at a clothing store, then a florist. In her last endeavor at Bethia Methodist Church, she helped with flower arrangements and Church Bulletins. Her crowning artistic achievements will be remembered in her lRove and celebration of Christmas. We all waited to see what was new and different.

In 1973, she married Calvin Koch and gained five new children in William Koch (Debbie), Richard Koch (Susan), Debbie Clendenin (Charlie), Cheryl Rozell (Dan) and Timothy Koch (deceased). Rose will be missed by them along with her sister, Rachel Pollard; sisters-in-law, Mary Lois Atkinson, Betty Stacy; surviving children, Rosemarie Thurman (Raymond Brinkman), David Thurman (Nadine), Patty Brown (Gary, dec.), and Lynn Sadusky (Ronald); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward Rose's love of nature, art, and family. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Wesley and Dewey; her first husband, David Thurman; her husband, Calvin Koch; and brothers-in-law, Richard Thurman, Robert Thurman, and Denny Thurman. Rose's spirit lives on in the gardens she nurtured, the flowers she arranged, and the hearts of those who loved her. Her sweet love of God, family and friends stand out in our memories and the beauty that she gave to us all.

A Memorial Service is being held on June 28, 2025, at the Bethia Methodist Church on 10700 Winterpock Road at 11 a.m. Donations to a charity that cares for others can be made in lieu of flowers. The memorial service will be livestreamed and the link can be found on hillsmanhix.com.
