Roy Atrel Worrell

1938 - 2022

WORRELL, Roy Atrel, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 30, 2022. He will be remembered with love for his calm demeanor, his kindness to all and his devotion to his family, especially his wife of 61 years, Nancy. He never met a stranger and didn't have an enemy in the world. To meet him was to love him. Roy was born April 26, 1938 to Hadley and Ocie Cave Worrell. He grew up in Goochland County and graduated from Goochland High School. He fondly remembered his senior prank where he instigated moving the football bleachers to the top of the high school building. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and proudly served for six years. On June 11, 1960 he married the love of his life, Nancy and together, they raised two sons, Randy and Glenn. Roy was a 65-year member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union and worked tirelessly until he retired in 1998. Retirement brought many trips with dear friends, long motorcycle rides and time spent with family and friends. He loved photography and was always the first to document any occasion. Roy and Nancy have been devoted members of Chesterfield Baptist Church since 1973 and Roy was always the first to volunteer to help in any way he could. Roy is survived by his wife, Nancy; brothers, Henry (Lynda) and Ricky (Diana); sons, Randy (Amy) and Glenn (Isabella); grandchildren, Chad (Casey), Kristen (Chris), Clayton, Taylor (Jack) and Peyton. He was also a proud "Papa Roy" to his four great-grandsons. Services will be held at Chesterfield Baptist Church, 16520 Hull Street Road, Moseley, Virginia 23120 on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Visitation will be at 11 a.m. with the service at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Chesterfield Baptist Church Property and Assets Fund.
