Stanley Lebow Obituary

Dr. Stanley J. Lebow, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2003. He was born in New York City, the son of the late Joseph and Mollie Lebow. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Lebow; daughter, Sharon Lebow Grossman and husband, Michael; two sons, Dr. Marc I. Lebow and wife, Nina, Dr. Joseph E. Lebow and wife, Mary; two grandchildren, Nikki Grossman and Scott Lebow; and one sister, Miriam Waters of New York City. Dr. Lebow served as a Yard Mine Sweeper and Sub Chaser in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He earned a Doctor of Optometry degree from Northern Illinois College of Optometry and began practicing in Hopewell, Va., in 1954, where he continued to practice until his death. Dr. Lebow served his community as Past President of the Hopewell Jaycees, the Petersburg Chapter of B’nai B’rith, the Hopewell Lions Club and Craftsman Club A.F.&A.M. He was a founding member of the American Diabetes Association, Tri-Cities Chapter, and was recognized as an outstanding Boy Scout Volunteer in 1960. Dr. Lebow was a Fellow of the Virginia Academy of Optometry. He was a member of the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association and the Southside Optometric Society. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 20 at Temple Brith Achim with Rabbi Dennis Beck-Berman officiating. Interment will follow at Brith Achim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
