Thomas Evelyn Obituary

Thomas Evelyn

April 7, 1954 - July 29, 2024

Thomas Clyde Evelyn, of New Kent, affectionately known as Tom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected community member, passed away on July 29, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on April 7, 1954, Tom lived a life marked by devotion to his family, love for the outdoors, and unwavering commitment to his community.

Tom is survived by his cherished wife of 48 years, Emily Clay Stanley Evelyn. Together, they raised a family that includes their sons, Thomas W. Evelyn (Carrie) and Patrick C. Evelyn (Jessica); and their daughters, Emily Anne Evelyn-Wallace (Edwin) and Caroline Evelyn Belcher (Brandon). Tom's legacy continues through his 11 grandchildren: Thomas Clayton and Trevor Evelyn; Camden, Laney, Trent, and Turner Evelyn; Billy, Emaline, and Preston Wallace; and Holden and Collins Belcher. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Ray Woodall; his brother, Charles H. Evelyn, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Lillian F. Evelyn.

A proud graduate of the University of Richmond, Class of 1976, Tom graduated magna cum laude and applied his business acumen to the family business, C.H. Evelyn Piling Company in Providence Forge, VA. His leadership and entrepreneurial spirit were further demonstrated when, in 1986, he founded Charles City Forest Products in Charles City, VA. Under Tom's guidance, Charles City Forest Products thrived and became an integral part of the local economy. His dedication to the company and his family inspired his children to join the business, continuing the Evelyn legacy. Through their collective efforts, the business expanded into multiple ventures, a testament to Tom's vision and leadership.

An avid outdoorsman, Tom found joy in hunting and fishing, pursuits that allowed him to connect with nature and share moments of camaraderie with friends and family. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with his loved ones, and his role as a father and grandfather brought him immense pride and happiness.

Tom's family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 2nd at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 3rd at St. Peter's Parish Church, 8400 St. Peter's Lane, New Kent, VA 23124. Tom was a devoted lifelong member of St. Peter's, where he actively contributed to his community. His spirit and values will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Peter's Restoration Association 8400 St. Peter's Lane, New Kent, VA 23124 or New Kent Fire-Rescue P.O. Box 209, New Kent, VA 23124.

Thomas Clyde Evelyn's legacy of love, respect, and commitment will forever be cherished by his family and the many lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
