William Slovic Obituary

SLOVIC, William Matthew "Matt", passed on to his next great adventure on April 4, 2023. He died at home in Hartfield, Virginia. He was 77 years old.

An altar boy, a soap box derby racer, a heavy equipment operator, a U.S. Navy veteran, a bartender, a business school graduate and a small business owner, Matt led an interesting life. After he retired, he became a follower of the sun, a Ford Mustang collector, a memorabilia minder, a treasure hunter, a beach bum, an extra in a Hollywood movie and a frequent traveler.

Matt kept up with family and friends and was somewhat of a family historian while leading his own life. He enjoyed the company of several long term girlfriends and made acquaintances easily. He was also a very private person.

A private interment will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia followed by a luncheon in Matt's memory at noon June 3, 2023, at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. Friends and family are invited to the luncheon to share their own memories of Matt.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Emil James "Luke" Slovic and Margaret (Little) Slovic of Richmond, Virginia.

Matt is survived by brother, Mal Slovic of Richmond, Virginia; and brother, Bob Slovic and his wife, Randy Slovic, of Richland, Washington. He is also survived by niece, Alice Orrell and her husband, John Orrell; and great-nephew, Calder Orrell. Additionally, he is survived by niece, Beth Slovic, her husband, Nick; and great-niece, Lillian.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center. Checks should be made payable to Department of Veterans Affairs and be mailed to Center for Development & Civic Engagement (135), 1201 Broad Rock Boulevard, Richmond, Va. 23249.

Along with Billy's brothers, Malcolm and Bobby and my brother, Donald we cousins played together when we were kids. In latter years I saw Matt on various occasions and he always had a new adventure or endeavor to tell me about. Out of all of us he led a most interesting life. My thoughts and prayers go out to Malcolm and Bobby and family's. May we all remember Matt as the freest of spirits among us.
