William Sprinkle Obituary

William "Bill" Melvin Sprinkle

William "Bill" Melvin Sprinkle, 79, of Midlothian, Va., passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, following a brief illness. He had been a resident of the greater Richmond area for nearly 50 years, where he married Theresa "Terry" T. Sprinkle in 2004.

Born in 1945 to Melvin C. Sprinkle and Gladys M. Sprinkle, Bill grew up in Kensington, Md., and attended Camp Zama High School in Japan, Naha High School in Okinawa and Walter Johnson High School . He earned his Eagle rank in Boy Scouts in 1960. A strong believer in education, he graduated from Randolph-Macon College (RMC) in Ashland, Va., in 1967 and remained a proud Yellow Jacket for the rest of his life. He also earned his Masters in Engineering from Virginia Tech University. A chemistry major in college, he was an active member of RMC's local alumni community, serving on RMC's Board of Associates, as liaison to the Society of Alumni Board, and as a member of the Boydton Society's Executive Committee. To this day, he holds the record for having referred more students to the school than any other person in RMC's history. This support extended to the Virginia Alpha chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at the College. He provided volunteer acoustic consulting services to churches in our community.

Bill is survived by his wife, Terry, as well as his son, Tim Sprinkle, and wife, Kristin, of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Allison Carver and husband, Ben, of Summerville, S.C.; stepdaughter, Victoria "Vicky" Gates, and stepson, Ryan Ellis; sister, Janet Gilbert and husband, Randy, of Sellersville, Pa.; brother, Kenneth Sprinkle and wife, Nan, of Potomac; and five grandchildren . An engineer throughout his career, he designed and worked on everything from recording studios, to corrections centers, to schools as an engineer for the Commonwealth of Virginia and others. He was also well known as a tinkerer, repairing cars, building radios, wrenching on bikes, and taking on any and every project around the house over the years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday August 13, 2025, at Lutheran Church of our Savior, 9601 Hull Street Road, North Chesterfield, Va. There will also be a viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12th, at Bliley's Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, Va. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va., later in September. Gifts in Bill's memory can be directed to Randolph-Macon College at RMC Gift Processing; P.O. Box 5005; Ashland, VA 23005.

Yesterday

Fond memories of Bill and his enthusiasm for life while we worked together at Robertshaw Controls in late seventies. I learned alot about acoustics from him.

Many of us with the Department of Corrections Architectural and Engineering Department knew Bill not only as a terrific Electrical and Acoustical Engineer but as a kind and generous gentleman always willing to listen and offer help and assistance to you in any way he could regarding a problem you might be having. He was a true team player and valuable member of our Architectural and Engineering Team. Our prayers and condolences are with Terry and family. Bill will be fondly remembered.

Bill will always be remembered for his caring and his sense of humor. His laugh was contagious. He always was there when I needed to talk about things I couldn“t talk to others about.
