Carolyn Sue Wait, 74 of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at her home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Highland County, the daughter of the late Pearl and Gladys (Davis) Groves.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed preparing for her annual Christmas party all the year round. She loved church, snow-birding to Florida with her late husband, yard saling, dancing, spending time with family, cooking, candy-making, listening to country music and supporting her son, Troy, as he traveled for his gospel music.
She is survived by five children, Chuck (Tracy) Wait of Hillsboro, Randy Wait of Sardinia, Eric Wait of Peebles, Troy Wait of Hillsboro and Adam (Crystal) Wait of Leesburg; 19 grandchildren, Megan (Shawn), Morgan (Craig), Mariah (Dillon), Elizabeth, Amanda (Doug), Nathan (Heather), Courtney (Clayton), Derek (Kristin), Travis (Kristy), Fancy (Jhi), Ashley, Makenzie, Dakoda (Courtney), Justin, Tyler, Aaron, Blake (Mackenzie), Nick and Corey; several great-grandchildren; special friends, Dennis West and Joy Fryman, both of Hillsboro; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Paul Wait, on Feb. 9, 2015; five sisters, Edith Groves, Helen Ashley, Imogene Hopkins, Pauline Johns and Delores Carroll; and three brothers, Elvin, Henry and Mike Groves.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 at the New Beginnings Church, 2326 S.R. 136, Sugartree Ridge. Pastor Jim Brock will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Market Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday July 5 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
