Dorothy Compher Obituary

Dorothy Jane (Fauber) Compher passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 4:20 p.m. Dorothy was born on December 20, 1929, in Highland County to Delmar W. and Mabel Lee (Young) Fauber. On July 26, 1949, she married Vernon L. Compher, and they shared 51 years together until his passing on Feb. 7, 2001.

Surviving are three daughters, Debra A. Whitt, Janice M. Runyon, and Polly L. Compher: all of Chillicothe and one son Dwite A. (Vickie) Compher of Hallsville, Ohio.

Dorothy was a loving and caring "Granny" to eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren: Zarron (Troy) Moore and their son Zebulin; Jason Jones and his daughters Chloe and Jessamine, Adamjon (Jody) Jones and their children Ethan (Karley) Jones, Taylor (Jason) Simkins, Sydney Jones, and Garrett Jones; Laymon "Tommy" Whitt and his son Drew Whitt, and Douglas Whitt; Troy Runyon and son Wesley Hayes, Shelli Runyon and her children Grant and Christy Clifton; and Christopher (Krista) Compher and children Briana Ragland, Ryan and Alexander Compher. Dorothy was also blessed with eight great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Jane Fauber and Joan Fauber and their families.

Besides her parents and her husband, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her daughter Constance L. Jones, grandsons Laymon "Tommy" Whitt and Adamjon Jones; her sister Delores Jean Smith Dennis; her brothers Heber Lee Fauber, Delmar Junior Fauber and his wife Shirley Fauber, and Ralph Raymond Fauber.

Dorothy graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1947 and moved to Chillicothe with her best friend Beverly Hart to begin her working career. In December 1979, Dorothy and Vernon founded Eagle News on South Paint Street where she made many friends.

Dorothy described herself as a believer in God. She felt you could talk to him anytime and anyplace. She thanked him for his many blessings and answers to prayers all her life. She was a collector and a keeper (not a pack rat). She collected friends, memories and thoughts throughout her life. Friends and loved ones are the most difficult to part with. Memories have lasted a lifetime. She hoped the memories she left behind would be good for those who remember her.

The family will receive friends at the Haller Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday from noon to 1 p.m.. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at 1 p.m. followed by burial at Twin Township Cemetery.
