Born November 9, 1943, in Dennison he was a son of the late James Merritt Compher and Freda Alberta Finnicum Compher. He graduated from Scio High School and honorably served his country in the Army and Army Reserves. He worked as a driller and shooter for almost 30 years at Cravat Coal Company.    Surviving are sons David (Marcia) Compher and Michael (Vonda) Compher, both of New Rumley, grandchildren Sarah (Erin) Compher, Shannon (Devin) Bailey and Grace and Tobias Barnhart, great grandchildren Willow, Paisley and Truett, a brother Floyd Compher of New Rumley and a sister Jean Rose of Louisville.
