Clyde Eugene Compher, age 82, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at his home near New Rumley surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 9, 1943, in Dennison he was a son of the late James Merritt Compher and Freda Alberta Finnicum Compher. He graduated from Scio High School and honorably served his country in the Army and Army Reserves. He worked as a driller and shooter for almost 30 years at Cravat Coal Company. He also worked for Ohio Edison until 1995 when his part-time job farming became his full-time job. He was the third generation to farm Compher Farms, a legacy that continues with his sons. Farming was his life; any free time was spent attending cattle sales, steer shows or “vacationing” at the Harrison County Fair to watch, and give advice to, his children, and then his grandchildren, at their shows.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sherry D. Snodgrass Compher on August 30, 2025; they were married on June 6, 1963. He was also preceded in death by brothers Charles and Jim Compher.
Surviving are sons David (Marcia) Compher and Michael (Vonda) Compher, both of New Rumley, grandchildren Sarah (Erin) Compher, Shannon (Devin) Bailey and Grace and Tobias Barnhart, great grandchildren Willow, Paisley and Truett, a brother Floyd Compher of New Rumley and a sister Jean Rose of Louisville.
Services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12 pm in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main Scio, Ohio with Pastor Mike Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 pm and Saturday one hour prior to the service from 11am - 12pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrison County 4-H Committee c/o OSU Extension Office, 538 N Main St, Suite H, Cadiz, Ohio 43907.
