Michael Alan "Mike" Heins, 49, passed away suddenly on Wednesday Oct. 3 at his home in San Francisco.Mike was born April 2, 1969 to Frederick and Xochiltl Heins in Vallejo. He attended Vallejo schools and earned a Bachelor's Degree with a double major from UC Davis in Political Science and Computer Science. He worked as a self-employed Database Architect for the past 25 years.As a precocious child, starting at age seven, Mike played the lead character in various plays performed by the Children's Theater Group. He played Oliver in the play by the same name and played Winthrop in the Music Man. In middle school he earned a purple belt in karate, in high school he competed in Academic Decathlon tournaments, joined Model United Nations and other various clubs in school.Mike loved living in San Francisco. He was immensely interested in video games and high-tech apps. In 1999, he won a prize on the radio and traveled to Ireland for two weeks. He loved playing guitar; and even played in a band for a short time. Mike loved to cook exotic dishes and was good at it. He was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants baseball team, enjoyed reading books every day, was a humanitarian, and had great concern for the state of the country and the world at large.He was a unique and caring person and will be terribly missed. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Frederick "Fred" Heins.Survivors include his mother, Xochiltl Heins; sister, Beca Heins; brother, Eric Heins; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.A Catholic Prayer Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo with Pastor Fr. Vic Teneza of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Vallejo, officiating. Inurnment will be private at All Souls Catholic Cemetery, Vallejo.
