Benjamin Thomas Walker died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021.
Ben was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Plymouth to the late George and Emma Walker, and was preceded in death by a brother, Albert.
Ben was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine (Kasia).
Ben and Kasia had four children, George (Annie), of Florida, Kathy Finnerty, of Harveys Lake, Ann (Garry) Hartman, of Stillwater, and Nancy (Berwick). The couple had 38 grand and great-grandchildren that were blessed to have Ben as their "Pop."
Ben was devoted to his family. He provided his family with many years of memories at their summer home at North Lake. His work days were long but he found time after work dancing on his shoes for whale rides, penny diving, singing songs (Once I went in Swimming) and Sunday pancakes on the grill. The grandchildren fondly remember birthday celebrations with Pop's thumb dipping into the icing before anyone got a piece. He was known for his famous response to the question, "How old are you Pop?" With "I'm older than dirt."
Ben lived by the motto "success is when preparation meets opportunity." Ben valued work ethic and his duty to serve his country. He graduated from Plymouth High School, attended Luscombe School of Aeronautics in Trenton, N.J., where he earned air frame and engine licenses. Ben was a member of the greatest generation and served in World War II in the Navy in the Pacific theatre and was stationed on the Antietam. Ben returned home and met and married Catherine (Kasia) Robskiwicz. He was employed by the A&P for 30 years, moving up from clerk to meat superintendent for the entire eastern coast. And he later worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot until his retirement.
Ben has been an active member of Hanover Notre Dame Club, Larksville American Legion, Plymouth VFW, Irem Shriners, Slovak Club and several other organizations. Ben was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ben's honor be made to the Episcopal Church of St. Clement and St. Peter, 165 Hanover St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
Special thanks to the Compass Home Health team that assisted Ben in the last several weeks.
Private services are being arranged through Kielty-Moran Funeral Home, 87 Washington Ave., Plymouth.
A memorial celebration of Ben's life will be at a future date due to COVID-19.

As my greatgrandfather, this man was larger than life. He was the definition of a family man who loved all of us as we all loved him endlessly.
