Daniel Marcinko Obituary

Daniel Marcinko, 88, of Nanticoke, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born October 1, 1922, in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Stephen and Mary Gresh Marcinko. Daniel was a 1941 graduate of Nanticoke High School and a member of St. Faustina Parish, Nanticoke. While serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal. Preceding him in death were his wife, Helen; daughter Diane; sisters, Margaret Petro, Josephine Shaulis, Ann Dalmas; and brother Stephen Marcinko. Surviving are his two grandchildren, which Daniel and Helen raised since they were toddlers, Rachael Wasenda and her husband Nicholas, Nanticoke; Aaron, Nanticoke; great-grandchildren, Deyonna and Alyssa Wasenda; sisters, Helen McCloskey, Washington Crossings; Mary Marcinko, Nanticoke; nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. from St. Faustina Parish, at the Holy Trinity Church site, with the Rev. James Nash officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
