John R. Lockman, 77, of Swoyersville, passed away at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, after a long illness.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth Lockman. He was a graduate of Luzerne High School, Class of 1966. After graduation he attended ETC in Philadelphia and LCCC, earning an associate degree. Upon graduation he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he completed basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., and at Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He was stationed in Hoechst, Germany, before being transferred to Vietnam where he was awarded a bronze star.
Upon returning home, he held various jobs before working at the Department of Veterans Affairs Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, Plains Township, and retired in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; and brothers: Howard and William Heidel.
Surviving are sons: Timothy J. Lockman and Ralph M. (Tracy) Lockman.
A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home, 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville.

Met John when were we stating at Hoechst, Germany with the 32nd Signal Battalion. And also get to meet his wife Lillian when she was in Germany. Also, get to meet his brother Bill, and son Ralph when they came to Hawaii. Wish we kept in contact after leaving Germany. Got stationed in Vietnam 1971-1972, wish I knew he was there. John, May your Soul Rest In Peace.
