Brendan Bequette Obituary

Bequette, Brendan Fahy ALBANY Brendan Fahy Bequette, 25, passed away on February 28, 2022, after a 20-month battle with an aggressive, rare mediastinal germ cell cancer. Brendan was born in Chicago and moved to Albany at one year of age, beginning a lifetime of travel, including his first international trip to Australia at the age of 16 months. He was a 2014 graduate of Albany High School, where he captained his cross-country team, fueled his love of math and science, and at the same time produced multiple videos, including one for his AP Calculus class when he combined number theory (series) and music - as a parody to the song "Creep" by Radiohead (youtube.com/watch?v=Pt8ptOYZSLc). He attended R.P.I. for one year, running cross-country and majoring in physics and electrical engineering. There he found that his film-making interests outweighed that of science and engineering, so he transferred to Ithaca College to major in cinema and photography. At Ithaca, he truly connected his engineering and artistic skills, tying a deep knowledge of technology and equipment with insights about how to best frame a shot or scene. After graduation in 2018, Brendan followed his cinematography dreams by moving to New York City and traveling to different locations to film a number of projects. Some memorable shoots included filming Kamala Harris for Axios and Michael Bloomberg political campaign commercials, as well as the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2019. Another of his notable works was his film, Eire (2015), accepted into the 17th Annual Chicago Irish Film Festival, as well as his personal photography projects capturing beauty in small details around New York City, Schroon Lake, and more. Brendan's family is truly grateful for the care he received from his medical teams at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Albany Med. The oncology, radiology, nurses, and integrative medicine at MSKCC were deeply committed to saving Brendan, spurred on by Brendan's perseverance through eight regimens of chemotherapy, three stem cell transplants, surgery, and numerous radiation treatments. Brendan is survived by his parents, Patricia Fahy and B. Wayne Bequette; sister, Eileen Fahy Bequette; grandmother, Ayleen (nee Cammack) Bequette; aunts and uncles, Pam (G.W.) Walsh, Jill (Doug) Faires, Kym Bequette, Marian Fahy, Bernadette Fahy (Bob Perlstein), Eileen (Sam) Gurevitz, late Stephen (Barbara) Fahy, William (Mary) Fahy, Richard (Julie) Fahy, and Jacqueline (Christopher) Jones; best friend, Musa Kanneh; girlfriend, Anna Feng, as well as many Moriarty, Fahy, Cammack, and Bequette cousins. He now joins his beloved late grandparents, W.H. Bequette and Nicholas and Eileen (nee Moriarty) Fahy; and godfather, Stephen Fahy. Brendan proudly received his Irish citizenship in 2019. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Brendan's family on Friday, March 4, from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 900 Madison Ave., Albany. Please enter the church by either doorway off the parking lot marked Office Entrance or Disability Access Doors. Additional parking to the church lot is available at 923 Madison Avenue and 877-879 Madison Avenue. Funeral services on Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Church, Albany, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Mass may be viewed at Facebook.com/stvincentalbany. The Rite of Committal will be held in the Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Chicago on Wednesday, March 9. Brendan will be interred next to his beloved maternal grandparents. Memorial contributions may be made for a scholarship in Brendan's name to the Albany Fund for Education, P.O. Box 3110, Albany, NY, 12203.
