David Marsh Obituary

Marsh, David A.
BRUNSWICK - David A. Marsh, 84, of Calhoun Road in Brunswick, died Monday, July 15, 2024.
Born in Albany, July 4, 1940, he was the son of the late Francis James Marsh and Dorothy Corrine Kerr Marsh. He graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1958, from SUNY Albany (BS and MS), and from the Graduate School of Public Health at Univ. of Pittsburgh (MPH).
He began his career as a high school science teacher at Johnsburg Central School, North Creek, NY in 1962. In 1965 he spent a year in research and training at Oak Ridge Institute for Nuclear Studies at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. From 1966 to 1995 he was a professor at the SUNY College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill where he taught biological sciences. For twenty-four years he was Chairman of the Natural Sciences Dept., a period during which there was extensive growth of its curriculum, program offerings and physical facilities. He retired from SUNY in 1995. He was a registered sanitarian/environmental health specialist (NYSRS and NEHA) and had been a leader in addressing many health, safety, and occupational health issues in the campus community.
In retirement David was an avid vegetable, fruit and flower gardener. He had traveled extensively in North America and Europe. An interest in family history led him to develop a genealogy of his Marsh line which came to North America in 1635. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Saratoga Battle Chapter and Empire State Society. He was a Trustee of the Capital District Genealogical Society and served as a volunteer assisting the public in locating information about their ancestors. He was a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and a Trustee of the Lansingburgh Historical Society. He loved the Adirondacks and enjoyed a vacation home and friends in Newcomb, N.Y.
Other family members include his late sister Dorothy Ann Marsh Clayton, brother the late Francis James Marsh, nephews Rev. Frank and Debbi Marsh, James and Maria Clayton, David and Magdelan Clayton, and John and Heather Clayton.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th St. in Lansingburgh), Troy, N.Y. 12182 thence to St. Augustine's Church where at 10:00 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
