Helen Tybush Obituary

Tybush, Helen A. BRUNSWICK On June 6, 2013, Helen Augusta Tybush celebrated her passing into eternal life, at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness, at the age of 90. Helen was born at 3 Ball Place in Watervliet on March 11, 1923 to Alvin C. and Emma H. (Strunk) Wagar. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who always put her family first. Her family was her pride and joy. Her spirit continues on in her husband of 63 years, Frank L. Tybush III and her family, which includes her children, Frank L. Tybush IV (Debbie), John E. Tybush (Elva), and Penny Martiniano (Paul), all of Tybush Lane, and Christine Benedict (Rick) of Willsboro, where Helen and Frank enjoyed their summer home. Also survived by her grandchildren, Mandy Chenaille (Tom), Frank L. Tybush V (Elizabeth), John Tybush II (Yolanda), Nathan Tybush (Nikki), Rocco Valenti III (Carrie), Christopher Valenti (Cassandra); great-grandchildren, Ryan Chenaille and Phoenix Valenti; nephew, David Wells and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen is also survived by her beloved granddog, Chocolate. Helen lived an amazing life, touching each and every individual she met. She would tell her family and friends of her life, starting in Watervliet, and including bicycle trips, working for the telephone company as a plug operator and at the War Department in Washington, D.C. She returned home from Washington to care for her mother who passed away in 1948. In 1949 she married Frank. They built many of their own homes, worked at Singer Sewing Machine Co. and enjoyed camping and traveling together. In her younger days, she also enjoyed their collections of antique cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles and boats. She was very involved in the lives of her family and her community. Helen was extremely strong in her faith and relationship with God. She was member of the Center Brunswick United Methodist Church where she had a spiritual friendship with the Rev. Arthur Hagy. She was president of the United Methodist Women's group. She lived each and every day as a Christian, spreading love and joy, stating, "It's what's in your heart that is important." Her smile and kindness were infectious. She truly loved her family and God. The angels have brought her home to be with her heavenly family and friends, especially her grandmother, mother and her beloved friend, Marilyn Bovair. Helen was a self-taught, proficient, fiber craftswoman. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering, sewing, weaving, quilting, needlepoint and tatting. She was an amazing teacher, eager to share her skills, from a passenger on a bus to a waitress in a restaurant, to classes at yarn shops, Home Bureau or 4-H meetings. She immensely enjoyed her visits to yarn shops and knitting retreats. She passed all of these talents on to all four of her children and daughters-in-law. She was very proud of her son John's alpaca farm, especially the newest member of their alpaca family, Little Helen. Never wanting to inconvenience anyone, Helen spent her last days laughing, joking and sharing witty bits of family history, advice and encouragement with a smile and glow. Helen and her family are blessed that she was able to visit with so many friends and relatives in her last days. The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming and for that we are extremely grateful. Please help us celebrate Helen's new eternal life on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate and Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY-7, located in Raymertown where the Rev. Hagy will officiate her funeral service. Burial will follow in the family plot located at Eagle Mills Cemetery in Brunswick. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m.

I knew Helen as a faithful member of United Methodist Women, enjoying her at an Embury District gathering at her church. I first met her at other District UMW meetings and she was always smiling, friendly and helpful. She will be remembered and missed. Your family has my deepest sympathy.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I can still remember as a 10 year old girl, her at your kitchen table and me showing her my items that I was selling from school. I don't know what she bought, but she did. I still think of her kindness that day. Keeping all of you in my prayers. God Bless.
