John Clancy Obituary

Clancy, John B. LATHAM John Bernard Clancy, 86, of Latham, passed from this life to the next on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Lake Norman Regional Hospital in Mooresville, N.C. Optimistic and supportive friend, strong husband, family man, father and grandfather, he was the best one could ever ask for. He will forever be missed, but wonderfully and more gratefully remembered. Born July 2, 1927 in Troy, he was the proud son of Daniel B. Clancy and Anna M. (Wiesenforth) Clancy. In 1945, after graduating from Troy High School, "Bernie", as he was affectionately known, enlisted in the Navy. He served for one year as an LCVP (landing craft, vehicle, personnel boat) captain and was sent to the Pacific Coast during World War II. After his discharge, he returned home and attended Hudson Valley Community College, where he earned his associates degree in 1949, immediately beginning a 43 year dedicated career with the Bendix Corporation in Green Island. Starting as a draftsman, he worked his way up to earn the title of process engineer. By the time of his retirement in 1991, he was awarded several US Patents. In his earlier years, John was an avid fisherman and hunter. In his later years, he enjoyed golf, martinis, working in the yard and visiting his children and grand-children in North Carolina. He was also a member of the Colonie Elks and in 2005 was inducted into the Edward C. Picken Troy High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Mae (Farina) Clancy; daughter and son-in-law, Julianne and Barry G. McConaghey; son and daughter-in-law, John J. and Stephanie D. Clancy; four grandchildren, Christopher J. and Matthew W. McConaghey, and Jack B. and Ashley C. Clancy. He is also survived by his in-laws, Joan Clancy, Raymond and Louise Farina, and Joanne Farina. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Robert J. Clancy and brother-in-law, Robert D. Farina. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Just learning of John's death in the NIT-Picken (THS Hall of Fame newsletter) on Friday September 13. I was very saddened and surprised to see John's name in a box titled REMEMBRANCE. I met John at my first Hall of Fame committee meeting. John had a way of making everyone feel welcome and included during meetings. He was a hard worker, dependable, forever upbeat and optimistic, and also a realist. Loved his spirit, and am grateful for having gotten to know him and work with him. You will be missed John B.
