John Coluzza Obituary

Coluzza, John L.
SCHENECTADY - John L. Coluzza, 82, of Schenectady, N.Y., passed away on March 7, 2025. He was born on November 20, 1942, in Utica, N.Y., the son of the late Caesar and Alma (Cornish) Coluzza; and brother of the late Thomas Coluzza.
John earned both his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Chemistry from SUNY Albany, and dedicated his career to science, working as a chemical engineer at Knowles Atomic Power Laboratory.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Irene (Forte) Coluzza; his son, Craig Coluzza; and his daughter, Hillary Coluzza. A voracious reader with a deep love of Russian literature, John read Crime and Punishment cover to cover at least a dozen times. He found joy in opera, a cold beer on a hot summer day, baseball, and visiting his son in New York City. Though a man of few words, John was known for his sardonic, wry sense of humor-whether recounting the times he spent hours lost driving around Boston and Montreal, or reminiscing about singing Il Pagliacci at family gatherings as a child.
John had a relentless sweet tooth, an impeccable taste for fine cologne, but above all, a quiet but unwavering devotion to those he loved, often showing his affection in small, but deeply meaningful, gestures. A devout Catholic, his faith was a guiding force in his life.
Calling hours will be held at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Union Street, Schenectady, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 5200, Harlan, Iowa 51593-0700.
