Joyce Akin Obituary

Akin, Joyce Marie (Stone)
JOHNSONVILLE - Joyce Marie Stone Akin, 58, of Johnsonville, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at Albany Medical Center. Born in Troy, on February 9, 1967, daughter of the late Donna (Nash) and Calvin Agan, she was a 1985 graduate of Hoosic Valley High School.
Joyce graduated from Samaritan School of Nursing and later Russell Sage College with nursing degrees, which would pave the way for her career. She was an RN for over 30 years starting at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, and then on to Century Same Day Surgery, Latham. Most recently, she has worked as a Case Manager for Anthem Blue Cross, Latham, N.Y.
Joyce was a one of the kindest people you could meet. She loved to spoil the people in her life, especially the ones she cherished the most. Her children were the light of her life, and she was always present for all the important moments. She enjoyed tending to the flowers around her home, and her dogs and cats throughout the years.
Survivors include her devoted and faithful children, Christopher (Michelle Hakala) Akin and Mackenzie (Jarod) Martel; granddaughter, Camilla Hakala; and she will also be missing the birth of her two newest grandchildren in the months to come. Also her siblings, Michael (Francine) Stone, Michelle Waldron, and Linda Pulenskey; and also many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Robert "Butch" Stone; and her best friend of many years, Sandra "Kay" Akin.
The family wants to thank Jill Anderson and Eva Moore for helping Joyce over the last year, and the Albany Med ICU team for taking care of her.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 31, from 10 a.m., – 12 p.m., at the Hoosic Valley Community Church, 2024 St. Rt. 40, Schaghticoke, N.Y. 12154. A funeral service will take place immediately after the visitation, followed by a Burial service in Millertown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204, in loving memory of Joyce Marie Akin.
