Joyce Zweibel Obituary
NORTH GREENBUSH - Joyce McClusky Zweibel, 97, of North Greenbush, died on June 27, 2024, in the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, due to complications from a stroke suffered in January.
Born in Albany in 1926, she was raised by her beloved parents, Frank B. and Lottie Haber McClusky, in Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y.
Upon graduating from Cornell University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science, she returned to Castleton and began work as a chemist at Winthrop Laboratories in Rensselaer. There she met her future husband, Arthur C. Zweibel. They married in 1954 and enjoyed many happy years together until his death in 2008.
A talented musician, she was the organist and choir director at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church (now Hope Lutheran Church) in Troy for 58 years, retiring in 2016. After retiring she stayed active, playing duplicate bridge, practicing her piano, attending ballet and symphony performances at SPAC, and, until her stroke, driving her stick-shift bright red Honda Fit. Even after her stroke she continued to take great interest in national politics and the NY Mets.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and the family cat, Nunzio.
She is survived by her children, Jack Zweibel (Treena Scott) of Fla., Anne Zweibel (Mark Gordon) of Minn., and Patricia Zweibel (Dan Leathers) of Washington, D.C.; and grandsons, Chris Gordon of Mich. and Charlie Gordon of N.C.
Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 8, 2024. Interment will be private, in the Gerald B. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y.
The family has requested that those who wish to remember Joyce make a donation to Planned Parenthood or a charity of their choice.
