Lawrence O'Brien Obituary

O'Brien, Lawrence
ALBANY - Lawrence (Larry) Joseph O'Brien passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, N.Y., surrounded by family on December 18, 2024. Larry was born in Troy, N.Y., on February 26, 1950, to Mary Rita Frank O'Brien and Timothy F. O'Brien. The fourth child, second son of seven children, Larry attended Catholic Central High School, Catholic University, and Siena College. He was an employee of Word Management and B-E-S-T Systems Inc. Larry ran his own business as a skilled typesetter, editor, and graphic designer. He worked with local clients, such as the New York State Defenders Association (N.Y.S.D.A.). Larry was an avid photographer, capturing extraordinary and everyday moments. He served as the family historian, keeping track of and celebrating every event, milestone, and birthday. He was uniquely moved by art, film, architecture, and music. From The Cars to Miles Davis to Philip Glass, Larry not only loved listening to music, but sought to share his passion with others. He enjoyed jazz festivals, Tanglewood, and blasting music in his V.W. He loved watching sports, especially soccer, N.H.L., Tour de France, and recently, Formula 1. Through his many interests, he connected with people all over the world. For Larry, there was no better meal than a tuna sub and a Trop-a-Rocka Snapple. No morning was complete without his Sumatra. He enjoyed the finer things in life, like Viva Paper Towels, a wooden hairbrush, Sharpie pens, and luxurious thirsty towels. Larry was sensitive, thoughtful, brilliant, and creative. He had the best sense of humor, a contagious smile, and a great head of hair. His life was fueled by love and laughter. His hearty laugh was everything.
Larry had a great love for his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was the light of their lives, and they his. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jennifer O'Brien Doherty (Mike), Amy O'Brien Davenport (Todd), Tracey O'Brien Nautel (Shawn), Tim O'Brien (Irina), Matt Marsolais (Meghan), Laura Marsolais, Alison O'Brien Verdini (Dr. Steve), Conor O'Brien Gruffi (Brandon), Evan O'Brien, Maureen Hausman Mizenko (Johnny), Lynn Hausman, Tommy Hausman (Catherine); and grandnieces and grandnephews, Pat and Brian Doherty, Kate and Paige Davenport, Abby and Grady Nautel, Tim and Helena (Leni) Lawrence O'Brien, Sophie Marsolais, Charlie Capri (CC) and Leo Verdini, Mac and Noa Gruffi.
Larry will be deeply missed by his beloved siblings, Mary Alice O'Brien, RDC (Susan Merritt, RDC), Barbara O'Brien (Mary Ann Fuina), Timothy O'Brien (Regina), Helen Marsolais, Karen Kane, and Rita Hausman. Larry was predeceased by his parents, his sister-in-law, Karen O'Brien; his brother-in-law, Mike Marsolais; and his best friend and brother, Charlie O'Brien.

Larry was truly a special person and this is such a beautiful tribute to him! I was lucky enough to be able to call Larry (and his brother, Charlie) my friend(s). We shared so many laughs together - they had the same great sense of humor and always cracked each other up! Larry was always taking pictures and would often send throwback pics to me years later with no explanation - just to make me laugh. It was obvious how much he adored his family and how that love was reciprocated. He will be greatly missed, but will live on in our cherished memories. My condolences to his family and to everyone who loved him. I hope he and Charlie are catching up and sharing their laughter once again.

My condolences to the extended O´Brien family. My brother Steve and I were playmates of Tim and Larry during our formative years. We lived across the street at 1503 Sausse Avenue. I have fond memories of wonderful fun on 16th Street playing brothers against brothers in two on two football and stickball.
I wish for all of you having and holding lasting fond memories of Larry that will help you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Mitch Gaies
