Patricia Freestone Obituary

Freestone, Patricia A. EAST BERNE Patricia A. Freestone, 71, passed away peacefully, on Monday, August 29, 2011, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peters Hospital. She was born in Madison, Wis. to the late Frank and Irene (Rowinski) Dempsey. Patricia retired from the NYS Dept. of Social Services. Prior employment was with the Departments of Labor in New York and Wisconsin. Patricia's greatest joy was spending time with family. Pat founded the championship winning CapitolAires, an all female Drum and Bugle Corps, based on her conviction that the girls could compete successfully against the male dominated corps at the time. She developed a complete family history for her husband and began working on her own family tree. Pat's original and personalized birthday and anniversary cards were treasured by family and friends. She was an accomplished accordion player and teacher; performing in competitions in Chicago and Madison, Wis. Pat also played alto clarinet and tenor sax. Her homes in New York and Sun Lakes, Ariz. revealed her interest in trains, lighthouses, and clowns. She is survived by husband, Roger Freestone; sons, Dean (Mary) Barkenhagen, Jay (Jacqueline) Barkenhagen, Robin (Kristin) Barkenhagen, Alan (Dianne) Freestone, Eric (Lyne) Freestone; daughters, Bobette (Mark) Perrin and Cheryl (Paul) Dunkelbarger; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Ballston Spa Village Cemetery, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A celebration of her life will be held at Altamont Reformed Church, 129 Lincoln Ave., Altamont, N.Y., on Sunday, September 4 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception in the church hall. Memorial gifts may be made to Altamont Reformed Church, The Albany County Hospice, or the American Cancer Society. To leave a special message for the family online, visit www.NewcomerAlbany.com.

Roger, You are in our thoughts & prayers. I will never forget the 1st time I saw Pat. Entering New Salem Reformed Church for the 1st time with our tiny Nicole('86). It was Pat's face I saw .. smiling sooo brightly and she welcomed us in her special sweet way. We instantly knew we belonged there. You both are very special to us & we will miss Pat so deeply. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel & just wait until they hear that lovely singing voice! Love you both, Laurie & Charlie

Roger & family, I am very sorry to hear about Pat's passing. Pat was not only a wonderful mother, wife and friend, but she was a wonderful boss. She didn't just treat me as one of the staff members, but like one of her kids. That's what Pat did. She loved talking about her family, bragging about her children, and showing off her grandchildren. Her church and homes were other topics near and dear to her heart, but lets not forget sports.....she was definitely a hometown fan.....When Pat retired, I missed the daily talks about her family, sports and the great advice she would give me. Every Christmas I looked forward to the Christmas card just so that I could catch up on the family news. Pat was very special to me and I will truly miss her. Love, Tina, Jerry, Samantha & Amanda

Roger and Family,
I am sorry to hear about Pat's passing. I worked with Pat in DSS. We shared many happy moments together planning the computer training for DSS staff. She had a great sense of humor and I know her greatest joy was being with her family. God Bless
